The Phillips Group didn't reduce the size of its auto fleet in 2007. Yet central Pennsylvania's leading independent office products company essentially removed 33 cars from area roads while expanding its "green" activities in 2007.
Phillips Group today shared the results of its 2007 Green Report, an internal audit of its efforts to expand recycling and save energy. The company retrofitted its 60,000-square-foot corporate office and warehouse at 501 Fulling Mill Road, Middletown, with energy-efficient four-foot fluorescent bulbs.
The move will reduce electricity use by 223,400 kilowatt hours annually while improving overall lighting quality. At the same time, the retrofit eliminated 175 tons of carbon dioxide that otherwise would have entered the atmosphere.
It's the equivalent of removing 33 cars from area roads or saving 21,000 gallons of gas, according to Richards Energy Group Inc., a Landisville energy consultant that works with Phillips.
"At Phillips Group, we try to be good corporate citizens and stewards of the planet," said Peter Phillips, the company's president. "We've found that reduced energy use and increased recycling don't just make us feel good, but they're really integral to the efficient and successful operation of our businesses."
